The personal questionnaire.
I grew up in Richardson, TX.
I attended J. J. Pearce High School.
I didn’t participate in any organized extracurricular activities in high school. I enjoyed reading and playing TTRPGs.
I came to UT because it was the only university to which I applied. I applied to UT because it was the easiest application to submit: I had my SAT scores sent to UT and they sent back an application that was already half-filled out. My SAT scores were high enough to get me in.
I am majoring in CS because I have known that I would be a computer programmer since I learned what computers were (probably around the age of 6 or 7), so CS seemed like the logical choice.
I am in this class for three reasons. First, due to exotic circumstances (I last took a class in 1993), I had to register somewhat late for classes and this class was still open. Second, this class’s meeting times aligned better with my other registered class than most other open classes. Third, I expect my background to make this class fairly easy.
I expect to get some practice with Docker, which I have only a small amount of experience with, and perhaps to learn some of what has been added to C++ since 2010.
I programmed extensively in C++ in the 1990’s and 2000’s, including writing a heavily templated serialization framework, a message bus, and many protocol converters for an electronic stock trading system. I haven’t used C++ much since 2010 though, so I am rusty.
The first lectures were about what I expected. Professor Downing is energetic and well-rehearsed.
I like the cold calling, but I haven’t been called yet. I always like talking about subjects I’m interested in.
I think specifications grading sounds good. My goal is to master the material, not to cram for a test.
I was happy this week when my daughter earned top marks in her Mandarin class.
My tip of the week is that .lol
domains are super
cheap for the first year (I got this one for $2.99 at hover.com and
other sellers are even less) and are perfect for your CS371p
blog.
See you next week!
